Welcome to the Red Lion Area School District Community Aquatics Program!
Our program offers instructional, fitness, and recreational opportunities for District residents AND non-residents, of all ages and abilities.
Swim Lessons consist of Levels 1-6:
Level 1 classes are for those that are able to leave parent willingly and is comfortable in the water. Student must also be able to follow directions in small group setting.
In this level, beginner swimming skills will be introduced in this level as well as comfort and safety in the water.
Level 2 is for those that can enter the pool independently, travel at least 5 yards, bob 5 times and safely exit the water. Student must also be able to glide on front at least 2 body lengths, roll to back for 5 seconds and recover to vertical position. (this part can be done with assistance)
In this level swimmers will learn rotary breathing, recovering from front float, changing direction of travel while swimming and alternating arm and leg actions.
Level 3 is for those swimmers that can step from side into chest-deep water, push off the bottom and move into a treading or floating position for at least 15 seconds. Swimmers must also be able to swim on front and/or back for 5 body lengths.
In level 3 swimmers will learn stroke fundamentals for front crawl, breaststroke kick, elementary backstroke and scissors kick. As well as entering the pool headfirst from a sitting and kneeling position (water at least 9 feet deep.) and treading in the deep water.
Level 4 is for swimmers who can jump into deep water from the side, recover to the surface and either tread or float for 1 minute. Swimmers must also be able to swim front crawl and/or elementary backstoke for 25 yards.
Level 4 will develop swimming endurance; learn a variety of strokes, kick and feet first surface dives.
Level 5 Swimmers entering Level 5 should be able to perform a feetfirst entry into deep water, swim front crawl for 25 yards, change direction and swim elementary backstroke for 25 yards. Swim breaststroke for 15 yards, change direction and swim backstroke for 25 yards. Submerge and swim a distance of 3 to 5 body lengths underwater.
Level 5 swimmers will be learning coordination and clarification of previously learned strokes. Introduce and develop flip turns and other surface dives.
Level 6 In order to progress to level 6, swimmers must be able to perform a shallow-angle drive into water at least 9 feet deep, swim front crawl then elementary backstroke both for 50 yards. Must use appropriate and efficient turning styles. Swimmers must also be able to swim breaststoke for 25 yards, switch to crawl for 25 yards while using appropriate and efficient turning styles.
Level 6 will increase the swimmers endurance and efficiency of all strokes, turns and diving techniques learned previously.
